I went to see Dr.Knox after my family doctor, Dr. Joel Friedman, MD, recommended him so highly. I was impressed immediately by the fact that Dr. Knox was very punctual, never gave me a feeling of being rushed, gave me a meticulous thorough examination from head to (in between the) toes and then sat down and explained everything to me in a relaxed manner; the fact that his twenty years of experience was able to save me the expense and trauma of a fairly radical and unnecessary surgery ( recommended by another dermatologist) while never once compromising my health was icing on the cake. I tell all my family, friends and massage clients if they want to see a dermatologist who values the patient’s health above everything else, who communicates well, patiently answers all your questions, never rushes you and keeps his appointments on time, then they will be very pleased with Dr. Knox, who is, in my opinion, the most caring, health oriented dermatologist I know of on Maui. In my 51 years, I have had treatment under five dermatologists. My experience with Dr. Knox is clear. He is the best by far. Why? His treatment is complete, efficient, courteous and he is willing to spend time to discuss any questions regarding future possible necessary medical work. My first office visit with Dr Knox was in 1992. I had been having skin irritation and was treated by a couple of different physicians. The skin irritation would go away and always return. A friend of my wife “that worked at The Texas Medical Center” recommended Dr. Knox. She said he had a good reputation and suggested that I make an appointment to see him. At my first visit Dr. Knox made an appointment for me to go to the University of Texas Medical Laboratory at the Texas Medical Center-Houston for testing. The results revealed that I had Discoid Lupus. Dr Knox started immediate treatment for the disease, along with advising me of the types of sun blocks, the proper clothing and head apparel that I needed to protect myself from the sun. Because of this I’ve been able to live as normal a life as possible considering the nature of my disease. My belief is that my decision to see Dr. Knox is the best medical decision that I’ve made in my life. Dr. Knox had this way about him. It was natural, and you just knew that he was genuinely concerned about your situation and you as a person. Before he left for paradise I had my entire family going to him for dermatological care.
